A really cool feature that has been made possible with new technology is the ability to track compliance with dental devices. CPAP machines have had built in chips for years that can produce reports that show how often and for how long patients utilize them. This is very helpful for doctors so they know their patients are sticking with treatment and their conditions are truly being kept under control.
Well now dental devices can do something very similar. Braebon Medical Corporation has developed a chip, the DentiTrac, that is placed in the side of the device that can create a compliance report. It takes no extra effort on the part of the patient, and can tell us a lot about how treatment is progressing.
Reading the chip to create the report is very simple. Whenever the patient comes in for a follow up visit their device is placed inside of a special base station and it will read the data and create a report.
This can be very helpful for many reasons, but especially so for professions like DOT regulated drivers that have Obstructive Sleep Apnea and must show compliance reports with treatment in order to continue to get re-certified for licenses.
